A closer look at the professional resume and biographical notes of the jurors of this year’s edition. In this section, a deeper look at the jury for Queer Lion 2012

FOREWORD

Queer Lion, the collateral award of 69. Venice International Film Festival dedicated to movies “with homosexual themes or queer interest”, is now in its sixth year, yet again under the prestigious patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, Veneto Region, Province of Venice, Venice Municipality and the National Union of Italian Film Critics.
Matteo Botrugno and Daniele Coluccini, the young filmmakers whose movie Et in terra pax (Venice Days) competed for the Queer Lion in 2010, will head the jury, whose other members are Daniel N. Casagrande, creator of the “queer lion cub”, and Marco Busato, General Delegate of cultural association CinemArte.
Seven movies are in the run this year, among them Brian De Palma’s Passion and Xan Cassavetes’ Kiss of the Damned, both featuring steamy lesbian sex scenes, as well as Jeon Kyu-hwan’s The Weight from Korea, and the collective work 6 sull’autobus, both part of the Venice Days and featuring M to F transsexual main characters.
The jury, as usual, might consider eligible for the award even movies screened at the Festival and not mentioned in this magazine; one to keep an eye on is for sure Spring Breakers, from American independent filmmaker Harmony Korine. Enjoy the show!
