L’origine du mal
by Sébastien Marnier
(France, Canada, 125’, 2022)
Stéphane, a humble factory worker, unexpectedly finds herself living a wealthy life when she is reunited with her billionaire father after a prolonged estrangement. But once she starts knowing better the four women surrounding him, family issues and dark secrets resurface. Seemingly a fish out of water in this world of luxury, Stéphane creates a new identity for herself. But is she really who she says she is?
Laure Calamy’s character is a kaleidoscope of revelations, from her prison past to the homosexual relationship with another inmate; schemings and misunderstandings provide the background for an atypical and grotesque comedy.
