FOREWORD
A year of work, a thousand obstacles
This year’s second edition is a one with plenty of events and proposals, starting from the lgbt-themed movies showcase at the Venice Market. It’s been a long, patient, silent work, spangled with difficulties, that has kept us busy for almost 8 months. 60 has been the movies screened by CinemArte for the selection at the Market, large the number of small sponsors that are supporting us, always a little bit too shy the help from the Insitutions. Totally and notably lacking, the presence of bigger brands, still too afraid to be associated with the word “homosexuality”. But, anyway, even this year both Queer Lion Award and Giornate di Cinema Omosessuale/Venice Gays have seen the light, hoping to give rise to emotions, something to think about, and unforgettable images.

Opening party: August 30th
In the heart of the 65. Venice Film Festival, in the wonderful setting of the beach just in front of Hotel Des Bains, the Queer Lion will welcome the audience of the venetian festival with an opening party. Blue Moon club (Venice Lido – piazzale Bucintoro, 1) will host the free entrance evening party, to chill out and enjoy some relax in between screenings, sipping a drink in front of the sea, listening to some good music, and, why not, making new acquaintances. From 23:00.
Award ceremony: September 6th
To know the verdict of the jury headed by Italian director Tinto Brass, it will be necessary to wait until Friday, September 5th: on early afternoon, on the website queerlion.it will be disclosed the title of the “best picture with lgbt & queer culture themes”. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 6th, at about 15.00, in the Sala Perla of the Casino Palace in Venice Lido: the award will be handed out by MP Paola Concia, deputy in the front line for the rights of homosexuals.
